WILLIAMS--Anne Wright. Died peacefully at home in New York City on October 20, 2007. She was 85 years old. Anne had been born in New York City, and was a lifelong resident of East Hampton, Long Island, having spent part of every year of her life there. She grew up there with her parents, Anne and John Wright, and beginning in 1941 she lived in a house on Woods Lane. During her childhood in East Hampton, she was an avid tennis player and horsewoman. Anne was first married to Matthew A. Baxter of Cleveland, Ohio. His paternal grandparents, the George White Baxters, lived in East Hampton. The marriage ended in divorce in 1953. In 1986 she married E. Coe Kerr, a well known art dealer in New York City. He died in Portugal in 1973. In 1990 Anne married David R. Williams Jr. from Tulsa, Oklahoma. They had known each other for over 40 years. He was the founder and former President of the Williams Companies in Tulsa. He died in 2000. Anne lived for 22 years in Cleveland where she was on the board of University Hospital and the Rainbow Hospital for Children, and was an active member of the Cleveland Garden Club. She was also an enthusiastic sculptor and began a life long love of painting. She left Cleveland and moved to New York to marry Coe Kerr. While in New York, she was on the boards of the Visiting Nurse Service and the Turtle Bay Music School. During her marriage to Williams, Anne lived in Oklahoma and Arizona for 5 years before he semiretired to New York City and East Hampton. Anne was on the board of the East Hampton Library for 15 years and served as its President in 1972, 1973 and 1975. She was Chairwoman of numerous committees and hosted many meetings in her beautiful and comfortable home. In the 1970's, Anne was appointed to several Garden Club of America jobs. Anne loved her own garden and spent many happy hours working there. She also continued her painting, occasionally exhibiting her work, and she served on the board of the D'Amico Art Barge. Though she traveled extensively and lived in other places, her daughter says that East Hampton was always Anne's favorite spot in the world. Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughter, Anne Baxter of Point Reyes, California, her son Matthew A. Baxter of Lyme, Connecticut, two stepdaughters, Polly Williams Lampshire of Camden, South Carolina, Rachel W. Costello of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a stepson, David R. Williams III of Beverly Farms, Massachusetts, and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Church in East Hampton at 11am on Saturday, November 17. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Hampton Library or the Garden Club of East Hampton, or the D'Amico Art Barge.
