Avis de décès de Alice-Joyce Carter

Alice Joyce Tingley, 84, of Grandview Drive, Moncton, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Maizie (Thompson) Carter. Joyce is survived by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Rupert. Joyce will be sadly missed by her daughters, Mary of Fredericton and Nancy Land (Jeff) of Hillsborough; son, James (Anne) of Cochrane, Alberta; as well as her precious grandchildren, Alice Land of Hillsborough and Molly and Edward Tingley of Cochrane, AB. Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Joyce and her family lived in several cities in Canada as her husband moved through many positions in CN and later Marine Atlantic. She was a great helpmeet to her husband in his work, meeting and greeting new people, maintaining the home when business called him away. She was made an Honorary Citizen of the Town of North Sydney, NS. Joyce enjoyed her many friendships, including those of her Tuesday morning Bible study group and her Wednesday afternoon Bridge club. Most of all, Joyce enjoyed working for her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Moncton; a member of the Evelyn Eaton WMS group and a Dominion Life member of the United Baptist Women’s Missionary Union. In her local Church, she served on Boards and Committees, attended and taught Sunday School and always supported her Pastor. In 1978, on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of First Baptist Church, Joyce co-edited a book on the history of the church. On the broader scene, she was Superintendent of Home Missions for the UBWMU and as such, served on the Council of what is now known as The Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches. For several years, she was Editor of Tidings, the Magazine of the UBWMU. She was a member and Secretary of the Board of Governors of what is now Crandall University. Joyce enjoyed antiques and at one time, together with a friend, owned and operated “Joymar” Antiques Shop in Shediac. She was involved with heritage as Chair of the Committee that founded the Baptist Heritage Center at Crandall University. She served on the Committees of the City of Moncton for the restoration of the Free Meeting House, The Thomas Williams House and the Trietz House. Together with Muriel Lutes Sikorski, she was instrumental in having the Settlers Landing site established on the shores of Halls Creek and served as a member of the Board of the Moncton Museum. Special thanks to the Staff of 5100 at The Moncton Hospital and to the Driscoll Extra Mural Unit for the love and care given to Joyce. Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Service at First Baptist Church Moncton on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Dr. J. Richard Jackson officiating. Reception following the service. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery in the spring. In Joyce’s memory, donations to First Baptist Church Moncton, the Friends of The Moncton Hospital or a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
