Ryan, Alice C. HOOSICK FALLS Alice C. (Caraher) Ryan, 87, a longtime Albany area resident, died peacefully, Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the Hoosick Falls Heath Center, following a short illness. Born May 20, 1924, in Schenectady, Mrs. Ryan was the daughter of the late John J. and Caroline (Grasser) Caraher and the wife of the late Matthew J. Ryan. Mrs. Ryan was a graduate of the former St. John's High School in Rensselaer. For over 25 years she was employed by New York State as a clerk, working initially in the Department of Audit and Control and later in the offices of the Division of Parole. Most recently she owned and operated the former Ceramics Corner in Watervliet where she worked as an instructor, teaching the art of creating ceramics and pottery. She retired in the early 1990's. In her quiet time she enjoyed the arts of embroidery, sewing and needlepoint, crafting and painting with watercolors. Mrs. Ryan's survivors include a son and his wife, John "Jack" and Virginia Ryan of Valley Falls; a sister, Ann C. Michels of Colonie and several nieces. Three sisters, Evelyn Vardine, Virginia Kallenbach and Madeline Painter, predeceased her. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at 6:30 p.m., at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown, with Fr. George Fleming officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday, from 5-6:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held on Monday, September 12, at 10:15 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
