AGNES MAE (SANTAW) ANDERSON - ENOSBURG - Agnes Mae Anderson passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011. She was born on Dec. 15, 1934, in North Troy, Vt., to Mabel (Westover) and William Santaw. She graduated from Concord High School in 1952 as Salutatorian. She married Glendon Fox and had five daughters. Agnes worked at home providing childcare for many years. She was involved in the Vermont Girl Scout Council as well as Sunday and Bible school. While living in St. Johnsbury, Vt., she volunteered to work with disabled children and received many community service awards. Agnes was President of TOPS in Danville, Vt., and was crowned State Queen for losing the most weight that year. She was also President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 793 for three years. After 25 years of marriage, Agnes moved to St. Albans, Vt. She worked at Franklin/Grand Isle Mental Health (NCSS) for eight years. She loved working with the people at the Marshall Center. During this time, she graduated from Community College of Vermont. She was very proud to be chosen for "Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges." Agnes also spent a number of years working at Verdelle. On July 11, 1987, Agnes married Bacil Anderson. They were able to celebrate their 24th anniversary with a car ride and a maple creemee, two things she really enjoyed. Although Agnes' last few months were spent at St. Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Bacil was at her side every day. While living in Franklin County, Agnes was a very dedicated member of TOPS VT #97. She was a great leader and truly was "The Heart of The Chapter." She loved encouraging the numerous friends she made over the years and participating in the workshops and annual SRD. Besides her devoted husband, Agnes is survived by her daughters, Norma Racine of Prospect, Ky., Nancy (Park) Newton of Georgia, Vt., Susan Tanner (Kevin Burns) of Swanton, Vt., and Monica Burnor (James Kendall) of Fairfield, Vt.; her son-in-law, Rene Carpenter of Winooski; her sisters, Eleanor (Milton) Lund and Lorraine Racine, both of Waterford, Vt. She also leaves many grandchildren: Chad, Tansy (Nicholas Olio), Dylan (Cecelia), Brant (Erica), Angus, Ethan, Jonathan, and Monica Newton; Etienne, Elijah, Silas, and Joy Carpenter; Nicolas (Jenalee), Hollie, Katie, and Olivia Tanner; and Savannah and Jenessah Burns. She especially cared for and received care from Azland, Jaden, and Cooper Burnor. She loved spending time with her great-grandchildren: Teivien and Damon Chau, Wyatt Walker, Malaki Newton, Lillian Martel, and Zoey Tanner. She is also survived by an aunt, Doris Bowen, and an uncle, Harland Westover, Sr.; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Anderson of Winooski and Donald (Mary) Anderson of Georgia, Vt. Agnes was predeceased by her daughter Sandra in 2006 and her mother in 2009. The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to St. Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation. We met many wonderful staff who provided excellent care during Agnes' illness. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Radiation Oncology department in honor of Dr. Tom Roland, c/o Fletcher Allen Development Office, 111 Colchester Avenue, Burlington, VT 05401. A service will be held at First Congregational Church, 27 Church Street, St. Albans, Vt., on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at 10 a.m. with a luncheon to follow sponsored by the Hospitality Committee.
