Avis de décès de Zita-Mary Hicks

HICKS Zita Mary Hicks passed away at her home Wednesday, May 22, 2002. She was laid to rest May 25, 2002 beside her husband of 56 years, Jesse C. (Jack) Hicks, Sr., a native of Texas who preceded her in death November 6, 1982. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, leaving a rich heritage of family history. She was the last survivor of six children born to Francis J. Pomar and Elouise Pacetti Pomar on February 9, 1908 in St. Augustine, Florida. She met Jack, Sr. in St. Augustine and they were married there on June 26, 1926. Their lives together took them to New York and it was there that their first child, Jack, Jr. was born. They later moved to Texas where their daughter, Joy was born. Their journey would bring them back to Florida and they settled in the rural Wesconnett area of Jacksonville. It was there Jack, Sr. cut the timber to build his family a log house. Within a few years, he build another home adjacent to the log house. It was while in this home they welcomed the birth of their third child, Wilbur. In the early 1950s, Jack, Sr. built yet another home on their 10 acres and it was there they resided for the remainder of their lives. Jack, Sr. was self-employed in the refrigeration business for a great portion of his life. As Jack and Zita planned ahead toward their retirement years, they began a small apartment complex in back of their home. Zita continued to manage this business almost until the time of her death. Jack and Zitas lives were centered around their family, which included eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, a large extended family and good friends. They enjoyed so many things in life - hard work and times of leisure as well. During the Fifties and Sixties they would often enjoy dancing at the German American Club. They especially enjoyed camping and their first camper was converted from his work vehicle. Jack, especially, always enjoyed reminiscing of the years gone by. And what colorful and fun tales he could tell! His family never tired of listening to his recollections. Surely there were lean times, but they weathered them together. Zita was a charter member of Saint Matthews Catholic Church. Jack was a member of Wesconnett Church of Christ. Mothers race is over now--her lifes journey is ended. She, too, is home at last--with Daddy. And in the prescence of her Heavenly Father--our Heavenly Father. We, their children, are grateful for their lives. We were blessed with godly parents and are thankful for the legacy they have left behind. We shall cherish our good memories forever. Please sign the Guestbook at Jacksonville.com
