WALLAGRASS - Yvonne (Belanger) Michaud died peacefully March 16, 2009, at a ripe old age of 99 years old, almost 100 years, with family and friends at her side at Forest Hill Manor. She was born Aug. 26, 1909, in Wallagrass, to Edward and Victoria Belanger. Yvonne was predeceased by her husband, Ulysess Michaud Sr., July 4, 1989. Memere was a hard working lady. They both raised six children. At the start of her married life, Pepere would take off in the fall working in the lumber camps and would not return until early spring. Memere would be the one caring for the first born children, milking the cows, feeding the pigs, chickens, etc. She would haul water so she could bathe the children, cook and water the animals. She would make butter, cream, can her vegetables and meats. When the family moved closer to the main highway, she'd cooked for the hired help and for breakfast it was not just oatmeal. She would serve beans, pancakes, cuts of pork, etc. The men ate hearty and off to work they went with a full stomach. Then Memere worked at Princes Kent, where she would always meet her quota and ask for more to sew. She loved the people stopping by to visit and insisted to sit down with her to eat. "Eat more" she'd say until we were blue in the face, then the pies came out. There are many other memories of her life to tell. All will agree she was a very hard working woman, always a smile for everyone, Thank you dear, Hello Dear, to all! When it was time for her medication, Jane would call Memere, "Grand Memere Ayoye (Outch)!" Memere would respond, "Okay Grand Pepere Ayoye (Outch)!" Always teasing and having a good laugh. She leaves behind two sisters, Claudia Belanger and Mabel Guimond; six children: four daughters, Gladys Gagnon of Fort Kent, Dorothy Bouchard of Millinocket, Claudette and Raymond Freeman of Soldier Pond and Bernice and Howard Nelson of Florida; two sons, Ulysess "June" Michaud Jr. of Wallagrass and James and Linda Michaud of Wallagrass; her 18 grandchildren, Dinah, Brenda, Marilyn, Thomas, Rickey, Robert, Janice, Terry, Linda, Glenn, Wayne, Tina, Scott, Jeri, Brenda, Chantel, Jason and Jay; her 28 great-grandchildren, Kathy, Craig, Paul, Nathan, Kylie, Jamie, Travis, Tori, Heather, Travis, John, Lindsy, Randy (who is deceased), Robert James "BJ," Isaac, Jack, Cole, Shawn, Tyler, Chad, Kelsey, Laura, Saige, Zac, Ben, Paul Jr., Jacob and Rebecca; 13 great-great-grandchildren, Eathan, Kayle, Daycee, Brody, Madison, Kameron, Ashley, Chase, Eathan, Victoria, Addison, Kaleb and Alyssa. Five generations-Wow! Thank you Memere for having given us the gift of life! May you rest in peace! To all the staff at Forest Hill, Northern Maine Medical Center, Visiting Nurses of Aroostook and all who in one way or another have gone out of their way for our mother and grandmother, Yvonne, we the family are very grateful for all you have done! Thank you! Family and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Interment will be May 14 at St. Joseph Cemetery, Wallagrass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for Yvonne may be made to Forest Hill Activities Fund, Visiting Nurses of Aroostook or a charity of your choice.
