May 16, 2007 Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Yvonne Burg Smith passed away on May 16, 2007, at The Hearthstone Retirement Home in Seattle, WA. "Vonnie," as she was known by friends and family, enjoyed a long, rich life. She was born September 20, 1914, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Anthony and Mable Burg. She settled in Syracuse, New York, where she met her husband of 56 years, Harold. Together they raised three children. In addition to being a homemaker, Yvonne was a dedicated volunteer for a hospital ladies' auxiliary, the Campfire Girls, the PTA and for Syracuse's Everson Art Museum. Two years after Harold's death, she moved to Seattle to be with her children in 2006. She had lived at The Hearthstone Assisted Living for the past year. Yvonne enjoyed many years of dancing with her partner, Harold, frequently closing clubs down as the last couple on the floor. An avid bridge player since her teenage years, she was instrumental in starting the Syracuse chapter of the American Contract Bridge League. She also delighted in spectator sports, especially tennis, golf and football. She will be very missed by family and friends and remembered for her beautiful smile, her warmth and her graciousness toward everybody she met. Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her eldest son, Jay; and her sisters, Prudence Hubbard and Priscilla Jenney. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia; her son, Bart; and her granddaughters, Alexis and Jittania. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 106 Chapel St., Fayetteville, NY, on Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 11 a.m. A reception will be held at the church following the service.
