PITTS, William Joseph "Billy," 39, of Darien, died July 5th, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Pitts was a native of Glynn County and a lifelong resident of Darien. He graduated from high school at Oglethorpe Christian Academy, was a former Boy Scout and a member of the National Head Injury Foundation. Mr. Pitts was a frequent volunteer at Fort King George and was a member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. He was an avid gardener and landscaper. He never met a stranger and lived his life to the fullest "One day at a time." His gift was to leave people with a smile on their face. Surviving is his mother, Patricia Evans Pitts, Darien; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Lou Pitts, Brunswick; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marijo Pitts-Sheffield and Chuck Sheffield, Pine Harbor, Tricia Pitts Deal, Darien, and Nancy Jane Pitts Mikowski, Tampa; four nieces, Lauren Pitts, Athens, Annsley Pitts, Brunswick, and Megan and Elizabeth Deal, both of Darien; a nephew, Christopher Mikowski, Tampa; and four aunts, Annette Evans, Brunswick, Bert Bluestein, Darien, Suge Cannon, Darien, and Beuna Pitts, Darien. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in Darien with Father Cletus Pifher officiating. Burial will follow in Palmetto Cemetery, Brunswick. Pallbearers will be Keith Pitts, Bill Alford, Michael Alford, Bubba Pitts, Ken Johnson and Cal Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Knight, Steven Goodbread, Jeffery Caldwell, Glenn Davidson and Jeff McGee. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, with a rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church Building Fund or Hospice of the Golden Isles.
