SANBORN, William OliverJune 10, 1926 - August 30, 2014Bill Sanborn passed away peacefully on August 30 at the age of 88, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born to Hugh and Anna Sanborn, both originally from South Dakota. He had a passion for the athletic pursuits of skiing, bike racing, and skating, the latter which led to his attraction to his loving wife of over 65 years, Leona Redlin Sanborn.Bill attended McDougall School and Victoria High School, then worked for Edmonton Auto Parts and Acklands as an accountant, retiring in 1991. His interests were gardening, reading and watching all sorts of sports, but his greatest joy was his family. An avid McDougall Community League member since 1961, he was president for many years and a Scout leader at Central United Church. "Gramps" was a diligent, devoted father of four, grandfather of ten and great grandfather of five. He will be sadly missed by his children, Judy (Chris) Tworek of Calgary, Lorne (Lorraine) Sanborn of Calgary, John (Maureen) Sanborn of Edmonton, and Jane (Kees) denHartigh of Edmonton, and their families.We are most grateful for the compassionate staff at the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on September 13, 2014, at Westlawn Funeral Home, 16310 Stony Plain Rd. Memorial donations may be made in Bill's name to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation.
