William Joseph Davis UTICA On July 8, 2014, William Davis, a.k.a. Bill, Webb, Capt. Nice and the man with a heart as big as all outdoors, passed on, leaving a multitude of family and friends who love him. Webb was born on January 11, 1951, in Utica, to Doris and Randolph Owens. He attended UFA and MVCC and, after graduation, joined the U.S. Air Force. Webb then became a Therapy Assistant at Marcy Psychiatric Center and Upstate Cerebral Palsy and moved on to be the first African-American Senior Residence Counselor at the Rescue Mission. He was a compassionate, generous and funny man who would do anything for his family and friends. Webb was a great cook and actually won first prize for his barbecue ribs at the Inner City Softball League Cook-off. He loved to fish and was an avid supporter of the Utica Fish & Game Club. Webb was an upstanding member of the American Legion Harold Provost Post 1686, the Over Club and was a Compeer volunteer. He loved to sing and would make up his own lyrics when he did not know the words to a song. Webb is survived by his son, William, Jr.; brothers, John and Clarence (Emmie) Davis, Paul (Bridget) and Irving (Kim) Owens; sisters, Ruby (Billy) Johnson, Carol Bristow, Linda (Kevin) Harris and Felicia Perry; along with many, many friends and relatives. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, James; and sisters, Cecilia, Mary Anne, Frances, Juanita, Rose and Victoria. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Nunn & McGrath Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica, with funeral services at 12:00 p.m. Remembrances in Webb's name may be made to the Rescue Mission.
