William "Bill" James Deighan Sr., 79, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at his residence in Garden City, S.C. Born in Morristown, N.J., William was a son of the late John and Margaret Deighan and was predeceased by Frances P. Deighan, mother of their four children. He is survived by his brother, John "Jack" Deighan of Mendham, N.J. Mr. Deighan was a U.S. Navy veteran and served as a volunteer with the Murrells Inlet/Garden City Fire Department. In New Jersey, William was employed with N.J. Bell and retired from AT&T/Lucent Technologies in 1983. He was an active volunteer with the Morris Minute Men First Aid Squad. Survivors include his second wife, Edwina Deighan of Garden City, S.C.; sons, Kevin (Linda) Deighan of Murrells Inlet, S.C., and William (Nancy) Deighan Jr. of Morristown, N.J.; daughters, Theresa Dyas (James) of Taylors, S.C., and Patricia Honrath of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, Stephen and wife, Melissa Dyas; Rachel and husband, Michael Moran; Ryan Deighan; Marc and Kelsey Honrath and Patrick Deighan and two great-granddaughters, Lauren and Jessica Dyas. A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mendham, N.J., on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 11 a.m., with Father Joe officiating. A reception for friends and family to "Celebrate the Life of William" will be held directly following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Morris Minute Men First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 192, Morris Plains, N.J. 07950 or to the Alzheimer's Disease Research, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, S.C. 29621.
