June 17, 2006 William "Bill" J. Hurley, 88, formerly of 707 Beley Ave. Mattydale, passed away in University Hospital surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 17, 2006. Born February 27, 1918 in Oswego NY, he was the son of the late Margaret (Serow) Hurleyand William Hurley. He was a long time resident of Mattydale. Mr. Hurley was being honored this year for 65 years of continuous service with Local 545, International Union of Operating Engineers, a career he enjoyed immensely. He was a parishioner of St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale. Bill had a great love of life and people, and was a fascinating & amusing storyteller. His life centered on his family, and he enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and the outdoors with his wife and children, as well as with numerous friends and relatives. He was predeceased by the wife he cherished, Elizabeth Hurley in 1994, and by his loving son John Hurley in 2000. Bill is survived by his children William Hurley of Brewerton, Patricia Bridge & husband Peter of Colorado, Susan Joyner and husband Robert of Liverpool, and James Hurley of Mattydale; as well as grandsons William Hurley (Helena) of Brewerton and Jeffrey Post (Stacy) of Colorado, and granddaughters Theresa Schmitz (Vern) of Georgia, and Lisa Hurley of Liverpool, four great grandchildren, William, Shane, Hana and Giannio, several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Tuesday 4 to 7 p.m. at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd. (Rte 11), Mattydale, with funeral services on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Margaret's Catholic Church.
