It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of, William (Bill) Michael Harrington, 56, of Port Alberni, BC, on November 7th, 2012. Bill was born in Sault St. Marie, Ontario, on March 26th, 1956. As a small child, he moved to the island with his family, Arthur (father), Patricia (mother) and Linda (sister). Bill graduated from A.D.S.S and went on to work at the local MacMillan Bloedel Pulp Mill, followed by a short career as a firefighter, and finally a CGA for the Home Support Association, where he worked for a number of years. Bill was a huge Canucks fan, he loved to sing and be in the spotlight, whether it was karaoke, playing guitar, or anything to do with music. He could water ski like a pro, play cards like a king and was the proud father of two boys, Adam & Lee Harrington.Bill was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at the young age of 29. He persevered through many years of difficult times, physical and mental hardship, but as a result, Bill learned to channel his pain through writing. He discovered his hidden talent through simple poetry, which inspired the hearts of many readers. Bill's poetry was combined with another talented Parkinson's patients artwork, and an exhibit was formed, with the purpose to educate the public, help those with the disease, as well as assist in fund-raising and lobbying for the cure of Parkinson's Disease. The exhibit is composed of 15 paintings, 25 poems, and contains messages of humour, hope, joy, and faith. It is called "With Parkinson's.... Don't Order the Soup". It is easily found on the world wide web. A Celebration of Life will be held for Bill on December 9th, 2012, 1:00pm, at the Best Western Barclay Hotel, in Port Alberni.
