DENVILLE, N.J. Bill Kearney, a native of Albany, N.Y., passed away peacefully at Morristown Memorial Hospital, N.J. on Thursday, November 25, 2004 after a short illness. Mr. Kearney was a graduate of Notre Dame and Albany Law School. Born in 1909, the son of Will and Katherine Kearney of Alexander Street. He started his 37-year postal career in Albany. He became a postal inspector with a variety of interesting assignments before and during World War II, such as guarding and transporting gold bullion from Ft. Knox and bearer bonds used to finance aid to Great Britain, postal liaison for Embassy Row in Washington, D.C. and occasional presidential mail carrier for Franklin D. Roosevelt when the president was traveling outside Washington. His career moved on to postal facilities planning officer at the regional and national level with retirement in 1971 in Washington. During retirement, Mr. Kearney made full use of his study and love of languages through travel to 63 countries. Most recently, he lived at Round Lake, N.Y. and Denville, N.J. He is survived by a son, William F. Kearney Jr. of Williamstown, Ky.; a daughter, K. Lee Vink of Boonton, N.J.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His wife, Margaret Peggy Wells Kearney, predeceased him in 1976. Private interment of his ashes will be scheduled at a later date.
