"Billy" Holmes, age 73, are scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Lexington. Interment will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Pafford Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Holmes passed away Tuesday in Lexington. He was born April 12, 1938 in Henderson County to the late Joe V. and Trula Mae Essary Holmes. He was a retired farmer and former business owner of Holmes Sporting Goods. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lexington, he loved God and wanted to be the best Christian he could be. Mr. Holmes was a 19 year survivor of prostate cancer, his theory was to put it in the back of your mind and keep going. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting arrowheads, and socializing with folks. Over the past few years, you would find him delivering lunches for Stewart's Coffee Corner. He was preceded in death by one son, Joey Holmes.Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Carolyn Vise Holmes; his two sons, Jay (Tina) Holmes and Jud (Lisa) Holmes; his daughter, Jill (James) Parker; his brother, Eddy (Patricia) Holmes, all of Lexington; his sister, Charlotte (Jerry) Sullivan of Union City; and four grandchildren, Cody, Josh, Joey and Jeb.
