William Daniel Kelly, 79, Punta Gorda, died April 10, 2005. He was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Atlantic City, N.J., and raised in Harrisburg, Pa. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army in the European Theatre and later in the Pacific Theatre. In 1960, he received an honorable discharge from the Army Reserve as a first lieutenant. He worked for 40 years in the television broadcasting industry with DuMont Labs, DuMont Television Network, Metropolitan Broadcasting, Metromedia, and for Fox Channel 5 in New York City, where he retired as vice president and chief engineer. He was a member of the Radio Club of America and received the DuMont Certificate of Achievement for important contributions to the science of television. He was active in the Military Officers Association of America, the Military Heritage and Aviation Museum and the local MacIntosh Users Group. Survivors include his wife, Jolene; children William Kelly and Katherine Brooks, both of Virginia, Steven Buettner of England and Linda McWaters of Colorado; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. May 25 at Burnt Store Presbyterian Church, 11330 Burnt Store Road, Punta Gorda. Military Officers Association of America will also conduct a military service. Burial with full military honors will be at 10 a.m. May 12 at Arlington National Cemetery. Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home in Punta Gorda is in charge.
