November 2, 2003 William Carl Jordan, 79, of DeWitt, died at home from complications related to ALS. He graduated from Skaneateles High School and the Syracuse University School of Engineering. He was the former president of C.L. Jordan & Sons paperbox manufacturer in Syracuse, a family business started by his grandfather in 1900. He was very active in many local organizations. These include Meals on Wheels of Syracuse where he was Delivery Volunteer of the Year for 2003, DeWitt Community Church where he taught Sunday School, the Rescue Mission where he served on the board for many years and was made an honorary trustee, the Kiwanis Club of Syracuse, and the Boy Scouts. He also served on the DeWitt Zoning Board. He greatly enjoyed outdoor activities with family and friends until late into his life. He was an avid skier and tennis player, and also loved to hike and canoe. He and his wife were enthusiastic readers and founding members of a Great Books group that has been active for almost 50 years. He was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Monnoyer Jordan; sons William Carl Jordan, Jr. (wife Connie and son Chris), Andrew Monnoyer Jordan (wife Margaret), and Thomas Wille Jordan (son Jeb); brother Charles L. Jordan (wife Barbara); sister Mary Raney; sister-in-law Barbara Mayo; five nephews and one niece. He was also blessed with an extraordinary circle of loving, life-long friends. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the DeWitt Community Church. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to DeWitt Community Church, 3600 Erie Blvd. East, DeWitt 13214; Meals On Wheels of Syracuse, 300 Burt Street, Syracuse 13202; Hospice of Central New York, 990 Seventh North, Liverpool 13088. Arrangements being handled by the Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.
