CLARKE, William Bennett McKay - passed away peacefully on the 22nd day of October 2009 at Chateau Gardens in Aylmer Ontario in his 99th year. Bill was born in Sussex, New Brunswick on July 31, 1911 and moved with his parents to Stockton California where they lived until he was fifteen years old, when his father's ill health caused them to return to Canada. He completed high school in Sussex New Brunswick and a degree in Forestry from the University of New Brunswick. After a few years with the Dominion Forest Services, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers and served in World War 2 as a Lieutenant in England and Holland. Returning from overseas, he worked with the Department of Lands and Forests in Toronto, North Bay and Aylmer. He retired from the position of District Forester in Aylmer in 1974. Aylmer has been his home since 1968. He was a proud member of Trinity Anglican Church, the Aylmer Legion Branch 81, and the Rotary Club of Aylmer through which he made many friends. Bill will be greatly missed by Vi, his wife of 71 years, his daughters: Lynn (Johnston) and her husband Allan and Susan (Hermann) and her husband Fred, also grandchildren Brendan and Shelagh Finnigan, Toby Siew, Keith and Stephen Hermann and great grandchildren; Corinna, Corbin, Chase, Isabel, and Konnor. The family wishes to thank those at Chateau Gardens who through their kindness and effort, made his stay as pleasant as possible. At Bill's request, a private interment service will be held at the Aylmer Cemetery with Rev. Adele Miles officiating.
