HAMILTON - Wilford Y. "Top Dog" Smith Sr., 65, died on Tuesday, Mar. 8, 2011, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.Born in Trenton and a lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of Trenton Central High School. He was previously employed as a fireman by the Trenton Fire Department. When he retired after 30 years of service with the State of New Jersey, Wilford was the Director of Custody Operations at Trenton State Prison. He served three tours of duty with the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman in Vietnam. Mr. Smith was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church.He was a Past Worshipful Master of King David Lodge No. 15 in the City of Trenton, a member of King David Chapter No. 5, Holy Royal Arch Masons of Trenton; Ophir Consistory No. 48 in the Valley of Trenton; Past Potentate of Khufu Temple No. 120 in the Desert of Princeton of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S.; and Zipporah Chapter No. 11, Order of the Eastern Star, PHA, Trenton.He was predeceased by his parents, James Earl and Evelyn Gloria Smith, and his lifelong companion, Sharine Williams. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Smith of Trenton; two sons, Wilford Y. Smith Jr. (Tanesha) of Cinnaminson and J. Wesley Smith of Ewing; two daughters, Sabrina Williams and Towana Williams-Fulmore (Tony) both of Trenton; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers, Otis Smith of Cherry Hill, Richard Smith of Ewing, Lester and Norman Smith both of Trenton and Michael Smith of Willingboro; three sisters, Jacqueline Smith of Houston, Texas, Patricia and Beryl Lynn Smith both of Trenton; his former wife, Anna Mae Smith of Cinnaminson; one aunt, Mattie Meeks of Trenton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.Wake services with Masonic ceremonies will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday (Mar. 16) at Shiloh Baptist Church, 340 Rev. Dr. S. Howard Woodson Way, Trenton. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday (Mar. 17) at the church with Pastor Darrell L. Armstrong officiating. Calling hours are from 8 a.m. Thursday until time of services at the church. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton Township. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service.
