Avis de décès de Widow-Virginia-Ann Johnson

VIRGINIA ANN JOHNSON Widow of former Palm Beach County Commissioner, Lake Worth Mayor and justice of the peace, Robert C. "Bob" Johnson, passed away early Tuesday morning at the Jay Robert Lauer Palliative Care Unit of Hospice of Palm Beach County at JFK Medical Center in Atlantis. She was ninety and was a Lake Worth resident for nearly sixty years. As a Republican state committeeman and pioneer office holder, Bob Johnson in many ways personified the 1960s and 145;70s' confrontational and turbulent emergence of the Republican Party in south Florida. Virginia Ann, "Ginnie" as she was known to a legion of friends locally, was always the quiet, dignified, and loving presence beside him during his colorful and ever-political career. Hundreds of area baby boomers and many of their children remember Mrs. Johnson as their kindergarten teacher at Webster-Tufts and Calvary Methodist church, both in Lake Worth, where she began teaching immediately following W.W.II and into the 1970's. A profound influence upon their young lives, she later had the joy of being followed in the teaching profession by many of her former students and even having some of her students' children names "Virginia" in her honor. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign- Urbana where she met Bob, Virginia was a Gamma Phi Beta and a talented musician. She played piano and violin, and she toured Europe as a young marimba player in an all- woman marimba ensemble. She was a founder of the Sharps and Flats music club for children, a patron of the Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County, and a member for many years of the Music and Drama Club of Palm Beach County. Her parents, Glenn and Martha Brubaker, were proprietors of the Brubaker Music Company, which had stores in Palm Beach and Martin Counties for over forty years. Virginia Ann is survived by three children, all graduates of Lake Worth High School: Charles W. Johnson "Chuck" of Boca Raton, Robert G. Johnson "Bob" of San Rafael, California, and Martha Ann Boisvert "Marty" of Lake Worth. Her six grandchildren recently came to Lake Worth from all over the U.S. to be with her during the celebration of her ninetieth birthday at the Gulfstream Hotel in Lake Worth in December. She was a D.A.R., the wife of a W.W.II veteran (LT, USNR), mother of a Vietnam veteran, (Bob, LT COL, USA, Ret.) and grandmother of a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afganistan (Mike, CPT, USA, Ft. Bragg, NC). Arrangements are by E. Earl Smith & Son Funeral Home of Lake Worth. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 20 at 11:00 AM at the Calvary Methodist Church, 301 First Avenue South, Lake Worth, FL 33460. The family thanks her friends and loved ones for their expressions of support and sympathy and asks that donations be made in honor of Virginia Ann Johnson to Calvary United Methodist Church or to the Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County, 701 Okeechobee Blvd., Suite 210, West Palm Beach, FL 33401.
