WARREN ERNEST PETERS CROWN POINT, IN FORMERLY OF GRIFFITH Warren Ernest Peters, age 87, of Crown Point, IN, formerly of Griffith, IN, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Edna Christenson Peters. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 1/2 years, Evelyn (nee Hendrickson) Peters of Crown Point, IN; children: Sharon Peters, Rachelle (Bill) King and James (Carolyn) Peters; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Audrey Elaine (Leonard) Krawczyk; brother, Robert John (Joyce) Peters; and many nieces and nephews. Warren was a graduate of Griffith High School, Class of 1942 and attended Shurtleff College in Alton, IL on a football scholarship. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army - WWII and served for three years in the combat infantry. He was wounded in Cassino, Italy and received a Purple Heart. He also was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and American Campaign Medal. Warren is a member of V.F.W. East Chicago Post #7237. He was a retired Metalurgist from Federated Metals in Whiting, IN after 37 years of service. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, January 30, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Burns Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Butler from Bethel Church officiating.
