->ALTON - Walter G. Bryant, 83, passed away peacefully March 8, 2015, at Maine Veterans Home. He was born November 16, 1931, in Bangor, the son of Fredrick P. Bryant and Gertrude McDonald of Prince Edward Island, Canada.Walter attended Bangor schools and proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War, where he received the Korean Service medal, Bronze Service Star, U.N. Service medal, and National Defense Service medal. After the army Walter worked various jobs across the United States including water and sewer department in California, an Alaskan Game warden, and then retired from the University of Maine Orono as a facilities manager. Walter loved the solitude of the Maine outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his good buddy Dave Prygrocki.Walter was predeceased by his brothers, George of Millinocket, Robert of Eddington, Lloyd of Bangor; sisters, Mary Jameson of Caribou, Freda Tracy of Bangor, and Charlotte De Rau of Eddington. He is survived by brother, John; sisters, Loretta Richter of Winchester, California; and Nina Cleland of Brewer; a special nephew, Tim Bryant of Stetson; long time close friends, Dave and Bobbi Prygrocki of Greenbush; as well as several nieces and nephews.Special thanks and appreciation to his caring neighbors and also the staff at Maine Veterans home in Bangor. Burial services will be conducted in the spring.
