Earl was born April 3, 1941 in Seymour, Mo. He was united in marriage to Ora Marie (Merritt) Johnson on December 3, 1971. Earl was a Sgt. in the United States Army, deployed to Cuba during the "Bay of Pigs," and a professional truck driver for 40 plus years.He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Marie (Merritt) Johnson; his parents, George Walter and Dora Magdalene (Swiger) Johnson; three brothers, Charles Leroy, Marvin Franklin, and James Edwards Johnson; and one sister, Lois Pauline (Johnson) Cook.He is survived by his mother-in-law, Vonnie Jewell (Currin) Merritt; four children, Marty Earl Johnson, Bill and wife Connie Nichols, Wyondia and husband Jerry Gray, and Johnny and wife Peggy Nichols; eight grandchildren, Aaron Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Hailey Johnson, Anthony Nichols, Jerry Gray, Jr., Lacey Nichols, Christy Mitchell and Brandy Essary; seven great grandchildren, Bradley, Trinity, Damien, Jackson, Ayden, Alyssa, and Makila. Two sisters, Mary Ruth (Johnson) Wessel and Dorothy Faye (Johnson) Linhart; one brother, Robert Eugene Johnson; two brother-in-laws, Stanley Merritt and Rolla and wife Helen Merritt; three sister-in-laws, Nancy and husband Jerry Cutbirth, Ann Wheeler, and Linda (Coker) Long; several nieces and nephews; and many other extended family and friends. Walter Earl Johnson had the heart of a caretaker, often taking care of family members and grandchildren.Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2012 in Meadors Funeral Home, Billings, Mo. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, also in the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will follow the service in Smart Cemetery, Billings, Mo.
