Walter T. Erickson, 91, of Bonita Springs, died Wednesday, January 12, 2011. He was born March 29, 1919 in Oglesby, IL, the son of Walter and Jane (née Hancock) Erickson. He was a W.W. II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, fought at Okinawa, was wounded there and received the Purple Heart. He later served in the Detroit Fire Department for 27 years, retiring as a Captain. Mr. Erickson is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Amanda (née Zuchowski); his beloved children, Marilyn (Alvin) Bjorge of Clermont, FL and Britton, MI, Patricia (Richard) Skrobecki of Canton, MI, Walter J. Erickson of Naples, FL, Thomas R. Erickson of Traverse City, MI and David M. (Mary) Erickson of Walled Lake, MI; his stepchildren, Lucinda Ann (Albert) Bowles of Sebring, FL, Gary (Gloria) Basch and Donald (Jeanette) Basch, both of Traverse City, MI, Rebecca (Ronald) Houtman of Thompsonville, MI; 19 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first and second wives, Dorothy Lillian in 1968 and Margaret in 1982 and by his stepson, Joseph A. Fredrick. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church of Bonita Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hope Lutheran Church, 25999 Old 41 Road, Bonita Springs, FL 34135.
