RIDGEWOOD - Vivian Marie Millar, 96, died on Feb. 14. She was a resident of Ridgewood since 1951. She was born in Clifton, N.J. in 1919, two years after World War I. She grew up in the Roaring Twenties and was 10 years old when the market crashed in 1929. Then came the Great Depression and times were very hard. She was the 10th child of Dutch immigrants who came through Ellis Island in the late 19th Century, Peter Maat and his wife Marie. In 1942 Vivian married David Millar, an engineer, who was sent to India to work for the British Admiralty during World War II. Three years later David came home and they started their family. William D. Millar was born in Queens, N.Y. in 1946, and he has lived in Ridgewood for 64 years. John D. Millar was born in 1952, and lives in Omaha, Neb. with his wife Pat. Faye V. Okma was born in 1956 and lives in New London, N.H. with her husband Ed and sons Zach and Ethen. Vivian worked for Curtiss-Wright Corp. Propeller Division and Prudential Insurance Corp. during World War II. Dave and Vivian were members of the Upper Ridgewood Community Church in Ridgewood and the Upper Ridgewood Tennis Club. There will be a Celebration of Vivian's Life on Sunday, Feb. 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Ave., Ridgewood with the Memorial Service at 4 p.m.
