BOONE, Virginia Virginia Meredith "Merrie" Boone, age 71, died at home in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, July 14, 2014 after a valiant battle with Parkinson's disease. Born June 26, 1943 in Richmond, Virginia to Virginia Lea and Bernard Meredith Nash, she attended St. Margaret's School in Tappahannock, Virginia and graduated from Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1966. At Converse, she was the chair of the Honor Council and the recipient of the Mary Mildred Sullivan award. On December 28, 1966, she married Daniel Walter Boone, III, the beginning of an extraordinary 47-year partnership. After living in Buren, Germany while Dan served in the U.S. Army, Merrie and Dan lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Princeton, New Jersey before moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1976 when Dan joined Atlanta Capital Management Company. While Atlanta continued to be their home base, Merrie and Dan also had homes and many special friends in Spring Island, South Carolina and Highlands, North Carolina. In addition to raising their three children, Merrie held leadership positions in several community organizations. Merrie was a long-time volunteer with the Junior League of Atlanta, and she served as the president of the Parents' Association at The Lovett School. She was an avid and competitive sportswoman who loved both tennis and golf. In recent years, Merrie served on the boards of St. Margaret's School, Georgia CASA and The Bascom. Merrie inspired many with her grace and determination in the face of a progressive and degenerative disease. She and her family founded the Comprehensive Care Center for Parkinson's at Emory University and became active supporters of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Merrie is survived by her husband of 47 years, Daniel Walter Boone, III. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Meredith (Boone) and Sam Tutterow, of Edina, Minnesota; Susanna (Boone) and Renaat Ver Eecke of Winnetka, Illinois; and Katie and Watt Boone, of London, England. Merrie cherished her eight grandchildren, Abigail Armistead Tutterow, Turner Boone Tutterow, Ella Meredith Tutterow, Charles Hammond Ver Eecke, Emily Addison Ver Eecke, William Preston Ver Eecke, Virginia Lea Ver Eecke and Gracie Meredith Boone. She is also survived by her mother, Virginia Lea Nash Heslep, her sister, Susan Armistead McClellan, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Merrie was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Meredith Nash, and her stepfather, James E. Heslep. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 19 at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 3098 St. Anne's Lane NW, Atlanta, GA 30327. The family will receive friends at a reception in the parish hall after the service. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery at 96 Jefferson Street, Newnan, GA 30263 at 4:00 PM. Relatives and friends are welcome at the visitation at H.M. Patterson and Son-Spring Hill Chapel at 1020 Spring Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30309 on Friday, July 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
