ObituaryVirginia Tyler Carpenter, a resident of Brandywine in Ft. Myers, passed away on January 27, 2004 at the age of 85, at Hospice House South. She and her husband, Stephen J. Carpenter, moved to this area from Bettendorf, IA in 1984. Born July 3, 1918, in Savanna, IL to William A. Tyler and Theresa Rattelsdorfer Tyler. She was a cum laude graduate of Knox College in Galesburg, IL, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta and Mortar Board. She was a teacher and historian of the pioneer Carpenter family of Kentucky. Virginia Carpenter is survived by her husband of 63 years, daughter Kathleen Alice (Mrs. John P. Gould) of Chicago, IL; grandson Kenneth T. Carpenter of Miami, FL; and a sister Maryellen (Mrs. Arlen G. Jacobson) of West St. Paul, MN. Her son Bryan Tyler Carpenter passed away in 1999. Arrangements by National Cremation Society; burial in Lexington, KY. Respecting her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial services.
