Virginia ‘Ginny' Allen Taylor COLONIE - Virginia ‘Ginny' Allen Taylor, 88, of Sand Creek Road Colonie died Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Albany Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Cambridge, NY on May 7, 1924, the daughter of Alexander S. Allen and Sara Lois Lamphere. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1941; shortly thereafter, she entered nurses training at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. She left training and went to Salinas, CA to live with her sister. From there she enlisted in the WAVES for the duration of World War II. She was trained at Hunter College and was stationed at Bainbridge, MD as a dental assistant. Ginny was discharged to Troy, NY and attended Troy Business College where she met her future husband. They were married 20 July 1947 in Cambridge. She was employed for several years as a dental assistant in Schenectady and the VA Hospital in New York City, where she and her husband lived for several years. She returned to Albany and was employed at the NYS Department of Labor. After retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states and Great Britain, Holland, and China. They spent a number of winters in Tucson, AZ, where they enjoyed square dancing. Virginia was a charter member of the Van Rensselaer Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was a member of the Daughters of the American Colonies, the Dutch Settlers Society of Albany, the Capital District Genealogical Society, and Rensselaer County Historical Society. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harry G. Taylor and predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Durrin and Helen Champoux, and two brothers, Alexander Allen and John Allen. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue in Troy, Wednesday, October 31, 2012. A memorial service will be held at the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church, 520 Pawling Avenue, Troy, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 1st with Rev. Karyl Hopp, Pastor. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. Memorial gifts in her name may be made to the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church.
