CARTER _ Virginia Susanna (nee Birmingham) passed away peacefully on December 8, 2006, in Prince George; where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law. She was predeceased by her husband David Cleveland, her son John Cleveland and her brother William; survived by her remaining children Susannah (David) Pow and son David (Lori); her grandchildren Nigel (Angie), Virginia (Greg), Simon, Matthew, Harrison, Emma and Nicholas; her twin sister Verna Newson; her brother-in-law The Rev'd Philip Townshend-Carter and her special sister-in-law Joan Birmingham. Virginia was born in Vancouver on June 29, 1917 and grew up in Shaughnessy when, as she was fond of saying, "Vancouver was a nice small town". She went to Prince of Wales High School in Vancouver and Branksome Hall Boarding School in Ontario. She obtained her Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1939 from UBC. She was the president of her sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma. Following university Virginia worked for Boeing and became a driver for the Red Cross during the war years. When David returned from Europe in 1945 they were married and settled in North Vancouver where they lived for more than 50 years. Virginia raised 3 children and enjoyed spending summers at Buccaneer Bay and at North Barriere Lake. Virginia enjoyed history and current affairs and was involved in both provincial and federal politics. Ginny enjoyed a good discussion. She cared deeply about how world affairs could affect our individual lives. Donations in memory of Virginia may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada. There will be a memorial service for Virginia on Saturday, December 16th at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Anglican Church (2640 Goheen Street, Prince George), in Prince George.
