Smith, Virginia VALATIE Virgina Olthoff Smith, "Ginny," 68, passed away after a nine-month battle with lung cancer and complications from a stroke at the Community Hospice, St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Albany, she attended Albany schools, and resided in Valatie since 1981. Ginny worked for the New York State Department of Law under many different attorneys general, most recently Gov. Andrew Cuomo, retiring January 2010. She was past president of the former Kinderhook Elks 2530 Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Jack Smith; daughter, Chris Welch (Michael); her dearest grandchildren, Kyle and Tyler Welch; and also many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Dorothy Olthoff, her brother, Richard, and her son, Henry Joseph. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Johns the Baptist Church in Valatie on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 11 a.m. with remains buried next to her son in church cemetery following the Mass.
