ObituaryVirginia Smith, 85, of Fort Myers and Alpena, MI died October 2, 2006. Born to Santford and Bessie (Manier) Bissell, she was an accomplished educator and school administrator. Virginia attended Montmorency Co. Normal and received her Bachelor's & Master's Degrees from EMU. She started teaching in one room schools and spent the last 24 years of her career in the Davison, MI public schools as teacher, hearing and speech therapist, finishing as Director of Special Education. She received many honors and accolades. Upon her retirement in 1976, the Michigan House of Representatives honored her with a Resolution for her many years of dedication to education field.Predeceased by son, Ronald Smith, husband, Melvin Smith, sister, Hazel Bissell. Survivors include her sister, Ruth Stevens, several sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. A memorial service officiated by Rev. Victor Willis will be at the Century 21 Clubhouse, Jan. 6th, at 1 PM. Memorials may be given to Faith United Methodist Church, 15690 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33908.
