-> Garden City - Virginia Shipman Jones, 92, died Sunday, December 28, 2003 at her home. She was born December 14, 1911 to Jesse E. Shipman and Lilla Talbot Shipman. Virginia grew up in Phoenix City, Alabama where she graduated Valedictorian of Central High School in 1931. She lived in Columbus, Georgia before moving to Savannah in 1945. She was a member for over 50 years of the Eastern Star in Garden City where she was the pianist. She became a member of the Garden City First Baptist Church in 1956, during that time she played piano for many of the various activites fo the Church. Mrs. Jones was the senior adult Sunday School Department Pianist until age 90. Mrs. Jones worked for some time for H. L. Greens Department stores, formerly Silvers, Retiring in the mid 1970. She was preceded in death by husband, James Darwin Jones; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Caris Shipman; her husband's sister, Sarah and John Carroll. Mrs. Jones is survived by son, Pickens and wife, Faye Jones of Houston, Texas and daughter, Darwina Virginia "DeeDee" Linton, Garden City; six grandchildren, Allen Jones, Sharon Clark, Lin Linton, Ginni Galuk, Jammi Jaynes, Rob Linton; seven grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Massey-Massey Funeral Care. Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Massey-Framke Chapel. Burial: Hillcrest Abby East.
