Crawford - Virginia Ree Smith, 80, died January 26, 2005.Born in Augusta, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Reba May Neal Whitaker. A longtime resident of Oglethorpe County, she was retired bookkeeper from Richmond Sanitary Service, formerly owned by her husband, George B. Smith. Mrs. Smith was a member of Clouds Creek Baptist Church.Funeral services will be Saturday, January 29, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Rev. John Parker and Harold Darden officiating. Entombment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.Survivors in addition to her husband, include children, Holley (Pat) Watkins, Jr. of Athens and Robert G. Abbott, Jr. of Atlanta; stepchildren, Brenda Hanson, George B. Smith, Jr., Gale S. (James) Cutchins and Gary H. (Norma) Smith; sister, Frances Webster of Augusta and 2 grandchildren, Denette Abbott and Tiffany Abbott.The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clouds Creek Baptist Church.Lord and Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
