Mrs. Virginia Louise Smith, age 83, of Florence, died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at ECM Hospital, after an extended illness.Mrs. Smith worked in the dietary department of Colonial Manor for many years. She sometimes would go in on her day off to make biscuits and chicken and dressing. She was an excellent cook and loved cooking for people. She greatly enjoyed flowers, gardening and canning.She was a very giving person who loved everybody, and everybody loved her. She will be missed by her family and friends at Montreat.Visitation was last evening at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. today, May 21, 2005, at Greenview Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow in Greenview Memorial Park. Officiating at the service will be Fred Dillon and Perry Taylor.Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Smith; two sons, George Lee Smith, Franklin Delano Smith; and daughter-in-law, Shelby Smith; grandson, Robert Kelvin Smith; great-grandson, Benjamin Smith; and four brothers, Cliff, Bill, C.B. and Travis Parker.She is survived by her daughter, Stella Phillips and husband, Bill, of Florence; daughter-in-law, Diane Smith, of Greenhill; brothers, Dan Parker and wife, Danny, of Russellville, Stan Parker and wife, Betty, of Decatur, Nat Parker and wife, Patsy, of Decatur, Carl Parker and wife, Kay, of Florence; sisters, Katherine Sparks and husband, Ab, of Florence, and Jean Futrell and husband, Sam, of Florence; grandchildren, Roger Smith, Bobby Smith, Eddie Smith and wife, Dana, Tammy Richardson and husband, Paul, and Susan Whitfield and husband, Steve; great-grandchildren, Josh and Jeremy Richardson, Cody, Cory and Blake Smith, Skyla and Serena Whitfield.Pallbearers will be Bill Phillips, Paul Richardson, Josh Richardson, Jeremy Richardson, Eddie Smith, Bobby Smith, Steve Whitfield and Roger Smith.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association or to the Arthritis Foundation.Special thanks to family and friends and Drs. Heaton, Holden and Morris and to all CCU nurses at ECM for their care and compassion to her and to her family.Greenview Funeral Home, of Florence, is directing.
