VIRGINIA KATHERINE (BRAGG) RYAN UTICA - Virginia Katherine (Bragg) Ryan, 74, of Utica, NY, formerly of Ithaca, was called home to our Lord on Monday, April 5, 2010, surrounded by family and friends in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Kay was born August 7, 1935 in Syracuse, NY to the late Chester and Virginia (Caldwell) Bragg. Kay graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in Utica, and was employed by New York Telephone. She attended Utica College, married and began her family. After moving to Ithaca she worked at Immaculate Conception School and Fleet Bank. Kay was actively involved in her community, especially the Immaculate Conception School/Church. She was a member of the Home Bureau where she shared her love of crafts. Kay devoted many years to the Girls Scouts of America as troop leader and trip organizer for 14 area troops. Kay loved to spend her winters in New Smyrna Beach where she formed many close friendships. She was an avid bingo player and a devoted Yankee fan, never missing a game. Kay loved to watch tennis and was known to stay up late into the night to watch her favorite players. She was an outstanding bowler and enjoyed traveling to tournaments. She was well known for her marvelous knitting/ crocheting/ sewing skills, her scrumptious baking, stunning wedding cakes, kind heart, generosity, and most especially her love of God, which she passed on to her family and friends. She traveled to Fatima, Portugal to visit the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima and Lourdes, France to visit the shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes. She was a communicant at Our Lady of Lourdes and Historic Old St. John's Church in Utica. Kay was predeceased by her grandson, Joseph Marion. She leaves to treasure her memory her children: Patricia Hall, Candor, NY, William (Michelle) Ryan, Cicero, NY, Karyn (Richard) Marion, Trumansburg, NY, Linda (David) Lanning, Spencer, NY; her sisters: Elizabeth Puckey, Utica, NY and Marion (Ray) Montana, Lady Lake, FL; her aunt: Zeta Mae Neff, Ft. Pierce, FL; 14 grandchildren: Jeffrey (Lauren) Ryan, Robert and Sierra Hall, Jason Kraus, Liam and Erin Ryan, Michael Fries, Gregory, Virginia and Allyson Marion, Ashley, Sean, Ryan and Caelan Lanning; her Goddaughter: Barbara Hoyt; several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. In lieu of flowers please consider Mass cards. Friends and relatives are invited to her funeral service, officiated by Rev. John Tokaz, OFM Cap, on Monday, May 3, 2010, at 12:00 p.m. at St. James Church located at 17 Whig Street, Trumansburg, NY followed by fellowship and food in the church hall.
