Virginia "Jean" Hand Anderson, age 85, of Panama City, Florida, died holding her daughter's hand on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Gentiva Hospice of Emory University Hospital. She was born in Freeport, FL to the late Rev. and Mrs. W.C Hand on March 25, 1927. Heaven became her early birthday present.Jean married the man of her dreams, Clyde Eugene Anderson on August 16, 1949 in Panama City. She worked at Callaway Elementary School before moving to Miami, Florida, where she worked at the Chevron Oil Company Division Office for 13 years. They were transferred to Atlanta where she retired to a life of shopping and traveling with Eugene. When Mr. Anderson retired in 1991, they moved back to Panama City to be close to their grandchildren.Survivors include her loving husband C. Eugene Anderson, her daughter Cathy Starling and husband, Bruce; two grandsons, Christopher Starling and Kyle Starling and wife Jessica; sister, Nell Kirkland; brothers Rev. Clarence Hand and wife Ruth, and Homer Hand and wife Betty; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. W.C Hand; brother, Jessup W. Hand; and sister, Myrtle Day.Special thanks to caregiver Linda Harrelson and the members and friends from the First Pentecostal Church.Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at First Pentecostal Church, 179 N. Tyndall Parkway, with Rev. Allen E. Crabtree and Rev. Clarence Hand officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
