Violet "Just Vi" P. Laverty (née Carter) December 31, 1932 - April 16, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) LAVERTY, Violet P. "Just Vi" - 72, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2005, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Mildred (Gray) Carter. She was the first professional female printer in the Halifax and Dartmouth area. She was employed by NSIT for 21 years. "Just Vi" was an avid baseball catcher for several female teams and taught ceramics for years. She enjoyed sports fishing and the outdoors. She is survived by her lifetime partner of 27 years, Jeanne Young, Dartmouth; daughter, Barbara (Jim) Bailey, Dartmouth; grandsons, Christopher (Trish) Giles, James (Rose) Giles, Patrick (Peggy) Giles, all of Dartmouth; great-granddaughter, Taylor (the love of her life); brothers, Alfred, Ritchie, and sister Mary Small, all of Halifax; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother, Harry. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. A private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart Clinic, QEII Health Sciences Centre, Infirmary Site.
