Sloan: Violet Margaret 1916 - 2005 Violet (Vi) Margaret Sloan, 88, of Delia, Alberta, passed away on January 11, 2005 at the Drumheller Hospital after a sudden heart attack. Vi was born at the Morrison Farmstead in Delia on December 1, 1916 to Alex and Maria Morrison. Vi married William Howard Sloan (died September 7, 1996) in Delia on March 4, 1942. Predeceased by twin brother, Fred (World War II), and brothers Bob, Doug and John and sister Mary, Violet lived her entire life in the Delia area. Violet is survived by her brother, Alex (Viv) of Calgary and her four children: Bill (Elaine) of Castlegar, B.C., Peggy (Lloyd) of Delia, Fred of Calgary, AB, and David (Linda) of Edmonton, AB. Violet is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A graduate of the Delia High School, Vi was active her entire life in Eastern Star, W.M.S., United Church, W.I. and C.G.I.T. Vi was an accomplished softball player (Alberta champions - Morrin Flyers - 1933 and 1938) and curler, and in her later years was noted for her numerous awards for handicrafts, gardening and baking. After marrying, Vi and Howard started their life together farming northwest of Michichi. In 1948, they moved to the Stuart Sloan home farm NW of Delia, where they mix farmed for 44 years. One of Vi?s greatest wishes was that she could spend her entire life in her own home, a feat that she accomplished. Her garden, her plants and her craft projects kept her keenly interested until her final hours. Vi was a willing and active participant and volunteer in endless community projects and activities. Vi and Howard travelled extensively during their lifetime. Family was a special focus for Vi, and she spent much time every year travelling to visit family and partake in various family events, and for many decades hosted family dinners. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delia United Church, S.T.A.R.S., Institute for the Blind, or any charity of your choice. A celebration of Vi Sloan?s life will be at the Delia Community Centre, on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Travis Cannaday presiding. Arrangements entrusted to Courtney - Winter's Funeral Home, (403) 823-2666.
