Violet Mae Holmes Covington, Georgia Violet M. Holmes, 83, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2009, at the Coastal Circle Nursing Facility in Georgia. Violet was born in Utica, New York, on June 11, 1925, and lived there for most of her life. She lived in Guilderland, New York, from 2002 to 2007 and then moved to Hampton, Virginia, and finally to Covington, Georgia. She was the daughter of Margaret and Joseph Szypulski whom predeceased her. She is survived by four children, Oliver (Skip) Holmes of Delmar, New York, Tim Holmes of Covington, Georgia, Ted Holmes of Hampton, Virginia, and Kathleen Murray of Hampton, Virginia. Violet had six grandchildren: Andrew Holmes, Kevin Holmes, Stacey Foster, Corey Holmes, Ryan Murray and Shannon Holmes. She also had one great-grandchild, Chloe Foster. She is survived by three brothers, Earl Prichard of Citrus Heights, California, Eddie Prichard of Boonville, New York, and John Prichard of Sauquoit, New York. Violet was predeceased by her brother, Fred Holmes of California, and her sister, Hazel Doyle of Clinton, New York. She also had many nieces, including Kathleen, Barb, Sandy and Mary, and several nephews. Violet was a kind and gentle person who always found time to listen to others. She made endearing friendships and wrote numerous letters to those she cared about. She loved to read novels and work on word puzzles over her morning tea. She enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans for family members, local seniors and infants. The memory of her caring and compassionate manner will remain with family and friends forever. There will be no calling hours and the family will schedule a private remembrance service.
