HAMILTON, VIOLA MILDRED - age 87, from Glooscap First Nations, Bishopville, Hants County, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2006, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, NS. Born on April 4, 1918, in Bear River, Digby County, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Louis Joseph and Charlotte Pearl (McCumber) Peters. She was a member of the Glooscap Native Women's Association. Viola and her two brothers, Hank and Joseph, were professional guides. They traveled the United States, participating in the lumberjack shows, where she canoed, log rolled and was a professional women's ball burler. She is survived by her sons, Lloyd (Martha) Paul, Saint John; Gerald (Dianna) Paul, Glooscap First Nation, Hantsport, NS; Gerald "Jay" (Shelley) Halliday, Hampton; Michael (Tammy) Halliday, Hantsport, NS; Ten grandchildren and Eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Henry (Ann), Cincinnati, Ohio; Basil, Millbrook First Nation, Truro, NS; Leo (Marie), Dartmouth, NS; sisters, Katherine (Owen) Best, Saint John; Doris (Basil) Mudge, Digby, NS. She was predeceased by her three husbands, Andrew Paul, Arthur Halliday and Victor Hamilton; brothers, Freeman and Joseph; sisters, Mary, Lillian and Shirley Peters. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, with prayers at 7 p.m., all in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, NS. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 19, in Glooscap First Nation, St. Joseph Chapel, Bishopville, with Rev. Father J. J. MacDonald officiating. Final resting place will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 20, in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Saint John, New Brunswick. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia.
