-> Verlie Mae Jones, 89, of Richmond Hill, formerly of Savannah, died Thursday, April 17, 2003 at the Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Hospice Savannah. She was born in Tattnall County and had lived in Savannah since 1939. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman F. Jones. She had formerly worked at Lanes Drug Store on Broughton St. for over 20 years having served as manager of the restaurant. She then went to work with her husband, operating Jones Marina on Wilmington Island, and then to work for Jones Grocery Store at Shellman s Bluff for five years. She was a member of the Windsor Forest Baptist Church and the Sonshiner s Club of the church. She was a member of the Savannah/Chatham County Senior Recreation League. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Homer Wiggins of Shellman s Bluff; a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Janet Jones of Savannah; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m., Monday in the Chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Larry Williams and Dr. James Staubes officiating.
