TUSCALOOSA Vera Mae Williams, age 74, of Tuscaloosa, died March 29, 2006 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Boyles officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.Her parents, Nathan and Estelle Homan, and her brothers, Jimmie Homan and Clifton Homan, preceded her in death.Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Thurman E. Williams of Tuscaloosa; son, Terry E. Williams (Dorothy) of Tuscaloosa; sisters, Ethel "Boots" Bircheat of Tuscaloosa, and Christine Galloway of Bay Minette; brothers, Milford Homan and Nathan Homan, Jr., both of Bay Minette; grandchildren, Robyn Whinery Guin (Richard) of Northport, and Melissa Williams of Tuscaloosa; great-grandchildren, April Whinery, Drew Whinery and Jordan Guin; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.Honorary pallbearers are Stan and Star Bloom, Charles Brown, past and present friends and neighbors of Cherry Wood Circle for the last 49 years, members of Holt Baptist Church and the NGO Club, friends and co-workers of the University of Alabama Sporting Events, Dr. Gene Allredge, Dr. Paul Roberts and DCH ER staff, nurses and aides of Southern Care, Hospice of West Alabama, the special ladies in her "Birthday Group" for more than 50 years, and her very special best friend, Laura Jones.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made either to Hospice of West Alabama or Holt Baptist Church.
