Vera Bell Peterson, 76, died March 4, 2010, at Coastal Manor Nursing Home in Ludowici, following an extensive illness. She was born on Jan. 13, 1934, in Jacksonville to Ernest and Mildred Cooper Brown. She spent her childhood in Jacksonville and later moved to Waterbury, Conn. After retirement as a paraprofessional in a Connecticut school system, she moved to Ludowici, where she also worked as a paraprofessional for the Long County Board of Education until her second retirement. She was a member of Greater Historical Elem Missionary Church where she served faithfully on the ushers ministry. She leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted nephews, Berdell L. Cooper of Waterbury and Andrew Tave of Atlanta; devoted cousins, Mary Hamilton, Zenith Frasier, both of Ludowici; a grandson, Anthony Peterson of Waterbury; two brothers, Hubert (Helen) Holmes of Granitville, S.C., and Clifford (Rosa) Holmes of Warner Robins; two sisters, Elizabeth (Joe) Davis of Ludowici and Erma Jean Holmes of Jacksonville; special friends, Thomas and Belinda McClennan, Susie Cooper and Deotha Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Greater Historical Elem Missionary Baptist Church, Hwy. 301 in Ludowici. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Greater Historical Elem Missionary Baptist Church. Interment in church cemetery. Final arrangements entrusted to Royal Funeral Home of Jesup.
