SMITH-Valerie Smith (Katharine) (nee Robertson) Valerie Smith passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on August 16, 2007. Valerie was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on April 9, 1936, and was raised in Kipling, SK. In 1953, she attended teacher's college (normal school) in Moose Jaw, and subsequently taught in Woolsley, SK, and Medicine Hat, Alberta before settling in Red Deer. Valerie loved to teach. In particular, reading, to primary grade children in Westpark Elementary, Central School, South School, and Annie L. Gaetz Elementary. Valerie's gentle way, and sense of humour captured the heart of her best friend, and in 1966, Valerie and George Smith married. Five years later, their child, Allyson was born. Valerie's gentle smile, laughter, and sense of humour will be remembered by her husband, George, and daughter, Allyson Smith, sister Jane Lofto, her friends, as well as many former students and coworkers. At Valerie's request, there will be a memorial and celebration of her life at a later date.
