Troy James Roper, 55, of Oakwood passed away on Sunday, Jan. 9, at his residence following an extended illness, surrounded by his loving family.A memorial service will be held for him on Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at Chattahoochee Baptist Church, Lights Ferry Road, Flowery Branch, GA. The Rev. Keith Crowe will officiate. The family will receive friends after the services in the Church Reception Hall.Mr. Roper was born June 10, 1955, to the late Emmajean Bennett Roper and Donald Roper. He was a welder but had been disabled for many years. Troy was a member of East View Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his mother; his grandson, Nathan Andrew Whitfield; and two brothers, J. D. Roper and Phillip Roper. He was a wonderful loving husband, father and grandfather. Troy was loved by everyone who truly knew him and will be greatly missed.Mr. Roper is survived by his wife of 25 years, Judy Roper of Oakwood; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Thomas Williams of Cornelia; daughter and fiance, Robin Whitfield and Shane Anderson of Winder; daughter, Kelly Roper of Oakwood; sons, Timothy Roper of Gainesville and Dwight Roper of Baldwin; father, Donald Roper of Buford; mother-in-law, Dorothy Loggins of Flowery Branch; grandchildren, Miles Williams, Ryan Roper, Chance Whitfield, Josh Roper, Austin Roper, Madison Hall, Peyton Roper, Devin Williams, Kirstin Roper and Logan Anderson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy and Mike Whitfield, Shirley and Joel Gooch, Kathy and Ricky Barnes and Barbara and Doug Witherow; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who all loved him dearly.In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Compassionate Hospice of North Georgia, 1435 Haw Creek Circle, Suite 402, Cumming, GA 30041.Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, GA 30504 is in charge of arrangements.Send online condolences to www.memorialparkfuneralhomes.com.
