NEW BRITAIN - Tressie Mae (Brown) Watkins, 84, of New Britain, widow of William Watkins, Sr., died Friday, June 20, 2014, at home.She was born Jan. 25, 1930 in Allendale, S.C., and was one of 15 children born to Benjamin and Rebecca (Seabrook) Brown. She was a machine operator at Fafnir Bearing until her retirement. After she retired she became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was a member of Faith Center Church and served on the Mother Board at the church. She enjoyed OTB, Jai alai and was an avid poker player.She leaves to mourn four sons and two daughters-in-law, James and Betty Brown, of Marietta, Ga., Harold and Barbara Brown, of Bristol, William Watkins, Jr., of Chicago, Ill., and David Watkins, of New Britain; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Abraham Robinson, of Meriden, and Holly and Emanuel Gomez, of Southington; one sister, Marjorie Jackson, of Jacksonville, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 13 siblings.The funeral will be held Friday, June 27, at 11 a.m. in Faith Center Church, 22 Crown St., Meriden, with Bishop Joseph Norfleet officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Ave., Bristol.
