Thomas P. Gearey III, 74, Cortez, died Jan. 2, 2003. He was born April 28, 1928, in Upper Darby, Pa., and came to Cortez in 1991 from Mechanicsburg, Pa. He retired as an Army lieutenant colonel after 23 years, and served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. From 1946 to 1948, he was in the Marines. He was on the board of trustees of Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania for six years, and was president of the college's alumni association. He was a member of the Bradenton Country Club, Masonic Lodge 251 in Rex, Ga., Zembo Shrine in Harrisburg, Pa., and Roser Memorial Community Church in Anna Maria. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Z.; a daughter, Susan G. Van Pelt of San Francisco; a son, Bruce P. of Chesapeake, Va.; and two grandchildren. No visitation is planned. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Brown and Sons Funeral Home, 43rd Street Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
