Thomas Nathaniel Smith III, age 58, of Florence, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005. A lifelong resident of Florence, he graduated from Coffee High School and attended the University of Alabama, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was the son of the late Edna Earle and Thomas Smith Jr.He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Robert Koonce; his niece and husband, Kathryn and Stephen Keith; his nephew and wife, Stephen and Virginia Koonce; and five great-nieces and nephews, all of Florence. He is also survived by his aunts and uncle, Peggy Rogers Hudson, Joyce and Horace Kimbrough, of Tuscumbia, and Madelyn Rogers, of Phenix City, Ala.A graveside service will be Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., in Greenview Memorial Park. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Timothy Murphy.Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or the American Heart Association.Greenview Funeral Home, of Florence, is directing.
