Rev. Thomas M. Waldron, 85, Punta Gorda, died May 4, 2006. He was born Oct. 7, 1920, in Clewiston. He served in naval aviation during World War II on two aircraft carriers and was decorated for having been in four South Pacific battles. In 1946, he entered the evangelistic field as a single evangelist. In 1951, he accepted the pastorate of the First Assembly of God in Beckley, W.Va., during which time he built a church and an educational facility and began construction of his first radio station. In Beckley, he also served as a member of the board of trustees of the Appalachian Regional Hospital, YMCA board of directors, Chamber of Commerce, United Fund, Ministerial Association and other service organizations. In 1981, he accepted the pastorate of Southside Assembly of God in Lakeland, where he built a new church and pastored for nine years. After retirement, he remained in Lakeland several years before moving here. He served as senior associate pastor of Abundant Life Assembly of God. Survivors include his wife, Maxine; a son, Thomas D.; and two nieces. Services were held at the Assembly of God, Community Life Center, 19048 Edgewater Drive, Port Charlotte. Private burial was in Lakeland Memorial Gardens in Lakeland. Kays-Ponger Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda Chapel, is in charge locally.
