Thomas J. Sheehan, III Wilmington, was Arlington teacher, coach; 65 WILMINGTON Mr. Thomas J. Sheehan, III, age 65, of Wilmington, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Winchester Hospital. Born on December 1, 1943, in Cambridge, MA, Tom was the dear son of the late Thomas J., Jr. & Helen (Erwin) Sheehan. Tom grew up in Cambridge and Arlington and spent his summers in Marshfield with his family. He graduated Matignon High School in 1961 and Boston University in 1965 with a Bachelors Degree in Education. Tom taught Physical Education at Arlington Junior High School for 36 years, retiring in 2001. Tom also Coached football, basketball, and track for the Arlington Athletic Department. Tom worked for NAPA in Wilmington following his retirement. Tom married Maureen Murphy in February of 1967 and in 1977 they moved to Wilmington to raise their three children. Tom was a sports enthusiast who followed the Red Sox and Celtics, and he was an Elvis fan. Tom also enjoyed going to Las Vegas, Rockingham Park, where he loved the horses, the beach in Marshfield, and vacationing with his family. Tom was a devoted family man who loved to attend his children's and then his grandchildren's sporting and school events. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and former students. Tom was the beloved husband of Maureen (Murphy) Sheehan, devoted father of Kerry Sheehan, Beth Rooney & her husband, Mickey, all of Wilmington, and Thomas J. Sheehan IV of Revere; loving grandfather of Brendan Sheehan, Liam, Colin, Caroline, & Charlie Rooney; dear brother of Maryann Nolan of Hanover, Richard E. Sheehan, and the late Martha Maher, both of Marshfield; brother-in-law of Pastor Timothy Murphy of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem, and Jerry Murphy of Somerville. Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, June 27th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas of Villanova Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
